Destination Paradise

Squeaky chirps
Escape coconut trees
Creating an
Early morning serenade,
So proud and joyous
Sounding.
Butterflies,
More beautiful
Than any
Other I’ve seen
Prior,
Flutter by on wings of black and
Aquamarine.

Waves crashing,
So blue.
Waves
Spray
Playfully
Crashing against rocks.
The production of
A tranquil
Melody,
Calming to my soul.
As day proceeds into night
Their power and strength
Grows:
Fierce.
Intimidating.
Extreme.
While still so
Peaceful.
Enchanting.
Serene.
Suddenly I become
Jealous
Of the beautiful vision
Before my eyes.

At the point of
Horizon
The ocean kisses
The sky.
The brightest,
Deepest,
Cerulean
Faded into
The softest, Lightest

Baby
Shades of blues.
Paradise unparalleled
No other destination
Would I choose.

As stars explode
Across the darkened twilight
Sky.
Twinkle so beautifully
As if shooting around playing
In order to catch my eye.
All at once
So many more sparkle
Than I had seen before.
Blissful
At the simple pleasure
Of the perfect view in every direction
That I turn, blessed
To be so close
To the crashing shore.

As I drift off to that middle world
Between
Half sleep and
Half woke.
I’m reminded of the words
Mi abuelita
Earlier spoke,
When I told her
It was a poem,.
Yes, my own;
I sat down there and wrote.
“De medico, poeta, y loco.
Todos tenemos un poco.”
I smile to myself and consider
Her wisdom.
I realize I’m just blessed by her
Presence.
Her vast wisdom, I know
I could not begin to fathom.

To dream in paradise
Is a guilty pleasure,
That can be matched by little.
Spawning unique,
Special fantasies
That are usually unimaginable.
As I soak up the brilliant sun’s rays,
Inhale the fresh,
Intoxicating sea air, and
Revel in the tropical temperature,
Offset by a gentle breeze.
I savor the precious
Last moments in paradise
That I am able to seize.
