Awareness Grown

Everybody thinks they know
Better
Than the next.
Their own perspective dominates.
Pushing others away,
Often leaving people vexed.
Some actually do,
Know better.
But for the most part,
Usually they incorrectly assume.

Young folks don’t wanna hear
What old heads
Got to say.
They think they know all they need,
Minimal
Survival day by day.

But they’re missing so much:
Wisdom
That can be obtained
Only thru experience.
No wonder,
I guess it makes sense.
Youth
Rejects
Innocence.

Grown folks demand unconditional respect.
To the point that
They can’t hear the youngstas’ voice.
Respect outweighs open dialogue.
I believe
That’s quite an unfortunate choice
To be made.
Each consecutive generation
Faces the challenges of those previous-
Plus obstacles unique to their own,
But that doesn’t make them
Anymore devious.

Fear
Clouds awareness.

Thus, at times,
Elders
Suppress
Natural growth
And development.

So there
A divide exists,
As it does,
Causing all too familiar rifts
Between so many more
Groups.
Races,
Classes,
Religions,
Sexes,
And orientations.
Identities essential to the core
Of human beings.
Though it is a rarity
To find others who are capable of “seeing”
Through another’s eyes.

Respect and praises
To those who try.
An admirable challenge of which
To undertake.
No easy task,
To put personal beliefs,
Feelings aside.
Provide validation
To another’s reality,
Respecting a divergent
Worldview,
As one respects their own.
With even the slightest attempt
At this task,
One’s awareness has grown.
